Our Anxious Ground 2024
Our proposal for the annual Objectspace Plinth Commission reimagines the concept of ground as a dynamic, everchanging entity, challenging the artificial rigidity of the plinth. By assembling a new, unfixed ground from found bricks — a taxonomy of fragments from past constructions — it contrasts the static nature of traditional architectural materials with the constant change and restless movement of the installation. This new ground condition reflects the natural processes of growth, decay, and transformation, as these bricks are layered onto the plinth to create a dynamic surface that evolves over the 12-month period. The change over time emphasises the fluidity of ground and the inevitable return of built structures to a state of becoming.
