A one week tutorial for third year Design 5 students at UoA Te Pare School of Architecture and Planning.

Adopting the analogy of walking, the goal of the exercise was for the students to familiarise themselves with the brief they would respond to during the semester. Our intention was not to reach conclusions but to generate possibilities, through experimental modes of research, thinking and making.

Students used are.na to find and collect relevant resources and to make connections between similar ideas. They then used drawing, writing, diagramming and mapping to translate these ideas back into the world and assembled them collectively to generate new possibilities.
